Around 4:10 a.m. on March 27, 2015, Houston's oldest living firefighter, Elo John Fehmer, age 101, answered his final alarm when God sent His angels to bring him home.

Elo was born August 21, 1913 in Westphalia, Texas to Ben and Mary Fehmer. He moved his family to Houston in 1940 and joined the Houston Fire Dept. in 1942, retiring in 1978 as Senior Captain at Station 7. Around 4:10 a.m. on March 27, 2015, Houston's oldest living firefighter, Elo John Fehmer, age 101, answered his final alarm when God sent His angels to bring him home.

Elo was born August 21, 1913 in Westphalia, Texas to Ben and Mary Fehmer. He moved his family to Houston in 1940 and joined the Houston Fire Dept. in 1942, retiring in 1978 as Senior Captain at Station 7. Elo was a kind and gentle soul, had a sharp mind and loved reminiscing about all the things he witnessed in his lifetime. He moved from Houston to Brenham in 1995 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his son, Bill Fehmer and wife, Karen; daughter, Joyce Knott and husband, Charles; seven grandchildren, John Fehmer and wife, Ana, William Fehmer and wife, Erica, Vicki Fehmer, Kim David and husband, Chuck, Joanie Bell and husband, Andy, Julie Knott, and Michael Fehmer and wife, Judy; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Sean, Laurel, Eli, Alyna, Larissa, Christopher, Brooke, Christina, Meghan, Miles and Luke, and 1 great-great-grandson, Landon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Leona; second wife, Grace; son, Virgil; five brothers, Hugo, Walter, Alvin, Ray and Rubert, and one sister, Dora. The family would like to thank Dr. Welton Hill for his 18 years of loving care, Hospice Brazos Valley in Brenham for their compassionate care during March, and Gayle Capps who brought communion from St. Mary's to our loved one during the past couple of years.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 3rd, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Rosary recital at 7 p.m. in The Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10 a.m. in The Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, with burial to follow immediately after.
