Irma Jean or Jean as she preferred in her later life, was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She passed away on May 17, 2017.

Jean came from humble beginnings and went on to live a very full, active, and productive life. After graduating from Austin High School, she worked as a payroll clerk for two different companies in downtown Houston.

When she and Ben got married, she continued to work to help offset the cost of Dental School for Ben.
Then she stayed at home for many years and devoted herself to raising their daughter, Barbara. Jean later returned to work in Ben's dental office until he retired.

After her granddaughter was born, Jean devoted herself to being a very important part of Allison's life. They spend countless hours together and enjoyed each other's company very much. A special highlight was the four trips that Jean, Barbara and Allison made to Disney World.

Jean also enjoyed spending time with her brother-in-law David and his wife, Carole, along with John and Michelle and their daughters, Krista and Kaci. They all had many fun times together.

Jean was a fun-loving, gregarious person, who travelled all around the world on many, many trips with friends. She thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the sights in foreign lands, learning about different cultures, and meeting new people.

Thanks to the generosity of a very dear friend who owns a summer home on the coast of Maine, Ben and Jean were able to visit that beautiful spot many times. Jean especially loved Maine and always looked forward to spending time there.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Ben, daughter Dr. Barbara West, son-in-law Carey West, granddaughter Allison Plaza and her husband Francisco Plaza. She is also survived by her nieces, Linda Ellison, Lois Gonzales and Laverne Hamon.

Another very important part of Jean's life was the little dogs who lived with her over the years. Otto and Fritz were dachshunds, and her last dog, Miguel, is a Havanese.

Jean will be remembered by her family and her many friends as a down to earth, kind, and loving person who brightened many lives.

Friends and family are cordially invited to a memorial service that will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77077 on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:00am.
